Documents have been submitted to the Central Electoral Commission of Belarus to register a citizens' initiative group to collect signatures from voters in support of the nomination of the current head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, as a presidential candidate.

The Central Election Commission press service reported this on Telegram.

Who headed Lukashenko's initiative group

According to BELTA , Lukashenko’s initiative group was headed by the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Yuri Senko.

Lukshenko's initiative group was the first to submit documents to the Central Election Commission.

We were ready for this step, ” Senko said.

According to him, in accordance with the law, there must be at least one hundred people in the initiative group.

Our membership is significantly larger, noted the FPB chairman.

According to the calendar plan of organizational events for the preparation and holding of the presidential elections, documents for registration of initiative groups are accepted until November 1.

Signature collection will take place from November 7 to December 6, documents for candidate registration will be accepted from December 7 to 21, candidate registration will take place from December 22 to 31, and pre-election campaigning and voter information will take place from January 1 to 25.

Early voting will begin on January 21. The main voting day is January 26.

The election results will be determined no later than February 5. The second round, if necessary, will take place no later than February 9.
