Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the country would either join the North Atlantic Alliance or acquire nuclear weapons.
The head of the Ukrainian state made this statement on October 17 at a press conference after speaking at the European Union summit.

What Zelensky said about NATO and nuclear weapons
At a press conference, Zelensky spoke about his recent meeting with former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
I told him: "What is the way out? Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, or we must have some kind of alliance," the Ukrainian president said.
He noted that the only effective alliance today is NATO.
Who gave up nuclear weapons, everyone? No, only Ukraine. Who is fighting today? Ukraine, Zelensky added.
