The foreign ministers of the European Union countries have once again failed to agree on unblocking the funds of the European Peace Fund for Ukraine.

This was announced by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on October 14 at a press conference following a meeting of the heads of the foreign ministries of the community's countries in Luxembourg.

Borrell's statement is quoted by TASS .

Why can't we unblock Eurofund funds for Ukraine?

The peace fund is used to pay compensation to EU countries for arms supplies to Ukraine.

The 8th tranche of payments has been blocked by Hungary for 18 months. This also prevents the allocation of new funds. In total, 6.5 billion euros remain in limbo.

There is still no agreement, but we are almost there, " Borrell said, adding that he could not be sure that a decision would be made at the next meeting of foreign ministers in November.

The EU's top diplomat confirmed that his proposal, which has been under discussion for months, is to make contributions to the fund voluntary, which would allow the decision to be taken without Hungary's approval.
