The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjarto, named an event that, in his opinion, will provoke a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia.
According to a representative of the Hungarian government, Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization could lead to such a serious consequence.
For this reason, Budapest is not considering the issue of the Eastern European country joining the military-political bloc.
Szijjártó stressed that Hungary drew “red lines” soon after the conflict in Ukraine began.
The essence of one of these lines is the following: any clash between the North Atlantic Alliance and the Russian Federation cannot be allowed.
And Ukraine’s entry into NATO, according to the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, could lead to the beginning of such a confrontation.
And this would mean a third world war. We just want to avoid it, Szijjarto said in an interview with MIA " Russia Today ".
According to the Hungarian politician, many of his colleagues from NATO member countries admit the possibility of Ukraine joining the military-political bloc, but “in a closed circle” they talk about the impossibility of such a development of events.
However, Szijjártó did not list the states whose representatives do not believe that Ukraine will become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
