Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance in the current situation would lead to a third world war.
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry made this statement on October 10 on the sidelines of the 13th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.
The minister's words are quoted by TASS .
What Szijjarto said about Ukraine's accession to NATO and the third world war
The head of Hungarian diplomacy noted that Hungary has always been against provoking a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia.
If, under current conditions, Ukraine is accepted into NATO, this will mean the beginning of the third world war, Szijjártó said.
Ukraine has applied for fast-track membership in NATO in September 2022.
Yesterday, at a press conference after a meeting with the head of the Croatian government, Andrej Plenkovic, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked to at least invite the country to NATO, and at the Ukraine – South-Eastern Europe summit, he called inviting Ukraine to the alliance the first point of his victory plan.
The head of the Ukrainian state stressed that the country needs to strengthen its positions now, and not after the conflict.
