Neither Belarus nor Russia have plans to seize the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Alexander Lukashenko stated this at a meeting with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
In this way, he commented on the information disseminated by Ukrainian media about the alleged intentions of Minsk and Moscow to attack the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
We are reasonable people and do not rush into all sorts of adventures, the head of state’s press service quotes him as saying .
He told his interlocutor that Kyiv has recently been spreading rumors that “Lukashenko wants to seize the Chernobyl station.”
The Belarusian leader called such statements absurd, noting that he does not understand what might underlie them.
Why does Lukashenko need the Chernobyl power plant? We have already suffered enough from what happened after the explosion of this nuclear power plant, which, mind you, we did not build, we did not service and we did not blow up, he said.
And he recalled that “the main problem has affected a quarter of our territory.”
As well as the fact that Belarus is still struggling with the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.
Therefore, he assured Grossi that the fakes about the alleged plans to seize the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant are just that, fakes, and absolutely stupid ones at that.
We could never have imagined in our worst nightmare that we would have to “capture” the Chernobyl station and then answer for it,” Lukashenko noted.
According to him, Belarus has “no need” to seize the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
And, believe me, from Russia’s side as well: there was not, is not, and never will be,” the President emphasized.
