The Russian State Duma has not ruled out the use of nuclear weapons if the West lifts restrictions on the Ukrainian Armed Forces launching long-range missile strikes against the Russian Federation.

The corresponding statement was made by the chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, Andrei Kartapolov.

His words are quoted by MIA "Russia Today" .

What Kartapolov said about the use of nuclear weapons in response to strikes deep into the Russian Federation

The head of the State Duma Defense Committee stated that lifting restrictions on strikes deep into the Russian Federation could become the basis for using nuclear weapons under the updated nuclear doctrine.

It may become a basis, but the decision will be made by the supreme commander-in-chief, the deputy said.

According to him, there are many different factors that require assessment, so it is impossible to unequivocally admit or exclude the possibility of using nuclear weapons.

On September 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an update to the nuclear doctrine at a meeting of the Permanent Conference of the Security Council on Nuclear Deterrence.

According to the new version of the document, the Russian Federation reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in the event of a critical threat to sovereignty, even with conventional weapons, as well as in the event of aggression against Belarus.
