Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced Minsk’s readiness to normalize relations with Warsaw even tomorrow.
The head of state made this statement on September 12 at a meeting with representatives of different nationalities living in the country.
The president's words are quoted by his press service .
What Lukashenko said about normalizing relations with Poland
At the meeting, the head of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Alexander Songin, expressed the aspirations of the two peoples for a speedy normalization of relations.
We are ready to normalize relations with them even tomorrow, the president responded.
At the same time, he noted that Warsaw’s actions, such as the closure of border crossings, do not contribute to the normalization of relations.
Lukashenko also spoke about the issue of migration, recalling that previously there was normal cooperation with Poland and the European Union as a whole: Belarus protected the European Union from migrants, and the EU invested in the construction of temporary detention centers.
However, the president recalled that sanctions were then imposed on Belarus.
Why should we protect you with a noose around our necks? Where am I wrong? Now they are making some claims against us, - the head of state said.
Another claim from Warsaw, Lukashenko continued, concerns the so-called political prisoners.
What political prisoners? We don't have such articles. And then, what business is it of yours? - the president noted.
Commenting on Poland's claims regarding human rights, the head of state drew attention to the actions of Warsaw itself.
What human rights? You are killing people. These migrants are being brazenly killed, Lukashenko said.
He also recalled that Poland did not want to take Andrei Poczobut, who was convicted in Belarus.
They use any excuse to exacerbate relations, the head of state summed up.
He noted that neither the Poles nor the current Polish authorities need an escalation of relations with Belarus, but the United States is forcing them.
The Americans need a war here in Europe. Then they will be in favor, the president stated.
He admitted that Minsk is now paying more attention to the border with Poland than with Ukraine.
We are forced to defend ourselves, the head of state noted.
He stressed that Belarus has everything it needs to protect itself, and no one will draw any lines.
God forbid they even set foot on our land. Only the strong are respected. Therefore, there should be no such weakness, Lukashenko concluded.
