Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that strikes by Ukrainian Armed Forces on nuclear power plants could lead to a nuclear disaster similar to Chernobyl.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry made this statement on September 12 at a meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions in the format of a round table on Ukraine.

The head of Russian diplomacy noted that on August 11, after shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant was literally on the brink of disaster.

The minister recalled that as a result of the fire, one of the two cooling towers was seriously damaged.
