The Tajik embassies in Russia and Belarus have recommended that their citizens temporarily refrain from traveling to these countries.
Diplomats cite increased border controls as the reason for this.
This was reported by the TASS agency, citing statements from diplomatic missions of Tajikistan.
Russia
As for Russia, they advise against traveling to this country for now “due to the ongoing regime of enhanced control of entry of foreign citizens across the state border at land and air checkpoints.”
Earlier, in April, the Tajik Foreign Ministry announced a difficult situation with compatriots stuck in Moscow airports.
At the time, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the increased scrutiny was a temporary phenomenon and not related to the issue of “nationality.”
At the end of August, the Ambassador of Tajikistan to the Russian Federation Davlatshoh Gulmahmadzoda held a meeting with consuls in Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, Ufa and employees of the consular service of the embassy.
At the event, diplomats discussed issues of the labor activities of their fellow countrymen in Russia, as well as the problems they encountered at airports and border checkpoints when crossing the Russian border.
According to statistics from the Tajik Ministry of Labor, the number of labor migrants traveling to Russia in the first half of the year decreased by 15% compared to the same period in 2023.
The agency also reported that over 17,000 Tajiks were expelled from Russia for violating laws in the first 6 months of 2024.
Belarus
As for Belarus, the recommendation not to visit the republic is also justified by the increased control of foreigners at the borders.
The Embassy of Tajikistan in the Republic of Belarus advises its fellow countrymen not to visit the country temporarily “due to the tightening of the regime of control over the entry of foreign citizens across the state border at air checkpoints in the Republic of Belarus.”
