The head of the Central Electoral Commission of Belarus, Igor Karpenko, made an important statement regarding the upcoming presidential elections in the country.
According to him, there are currently four potential dates for the elections.
He recalled that, according to the legislation of the republic, the event must take place no later than July 20 of next year.
However, the final decision on the election date is made by the House of Representatives of the National Assembly.
Consultations
Karpenko noted: The Central Election Commission plans to hold consultations with elected representatives after the opening of the session on September 17.
I won't hide that four dates for the possible holding of the presidential elections are being named. But in order to announce them, consultations need to be held, - the head of the Central Election Commission is quoted by the Belta agency.
Karpenko repeated: the decision will be made by the House of Representatives “at its meeting.”
He also commented on various kinds of insinuations on the Internet regarding the upcoming presidential elections.
External interference
The problem of electoral sovereignty and non-interference in the electoral process is a topic that is relevant not only for us. It is relevant everywhere, - said the Chairman of the Central Election Commission.
In connection with this issue, he recalled the recent hacker attacks on the voting platform in Russia.
He asked: why interfere with the process from the outside? There is electronic voting there.
What difference does it make to you how people vote? People vote in their own country, hold elections in their own country, the head of the Central Election Commission commented.
Belarusians will decide for themselves
And then he pointed out the fact that today there are several geopolitical players operating in the world who are trying to use the elections to their own advantage.
We believe clearly and understandably that elections are held in our country for our people, in our national interests, with the aim of ensuring the sovereignty and independence of our country, Karpenko said.
He assured that Belarusians will decide for themselves who will be in parliament, who will be local council members, and who will be President.
We, the Belarusian people, will do this, the head of the Central Election Commission said.
