The Ukrainian authorities have decided to exclude a section of the border with Belarus from the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
This measure is justified by the need to strengthen the protection and defense of the state border.
This was reported by MIA "Russia Today" with reference to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the department, the draft of the corresponding decree has been approved by the country's government.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs believes that the decision taken will enable the State Border Service of Ukraine to “ensure proper protection and defense of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border and compliance with its regime.”
It is stated that a 50-meter strip running along the Belarusian border is excluded from the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
Currently, this location is owned by the Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve.
Let us recall that after the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, the areas adjacent to the station were contaminated.
Then a 30-kilometer exclusion zone was established, from which all residents were resettled.
