Belarus and Russia to sign security treaty in December

In December of this year, Belarus and Russia will sign an interstate agreement on security guarantees.

This information was announced on September 2 by the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maxim Ryzhenkov, at a ceremonial event in the Palace of the Republic dedicated to the beginning of the academic year at the Academy of Public Administration under the President.

Ryzhenkov noted that Belarus has significantly strengthened relations with its strategic partner and ally, Russia, both on a bilateral track and within the framework of the Union State.

The head of the Foreign Ministry noted the record level and effectiveness of contacts, especially between presidents and governments.

According to him, Belarus and Russia are updating and implementing a program of coordinated actions in foreign policy, have approved documents that regulate the adoption of coordinated decisions in military policy and the organization of armed defense of the Union State, and have achieved impressive figures in exports and trade turnover.

By the 25th anniversary of the signing of the SG Treaty, which will be celebrated in December, the signing of an interstate agreement on security guarantees is planned.

The treaty will lay down the principle of using conventional and nuclear weapons.
