You have to act fast. How to trim a dog's claws

28.12.2024 14:24

The problem of claws in domestic dogs is a real headache for owners. Unless, of course, they are trimmed regularly.

By the way, this is precisely why a pet digs all sorts of holes while out for a walk – not for fun, but to wear down its claws that are in the way.

For small dogs, who spend most of their time in the arms of their owners, the issue is even more pressing.

Long claws - inconvenience and pain

Sometimes the claws grow so long that it is difficult to move around the house, let alone outside.

The problem is not limited to inconvenience. Long curved claws do not allow the dog to place its paws normally.

As a result, your pet suffers from constant joint pain (a sensation similar to that experienced by a person in uncomfortable shoes).

Therefore, it is worth trimming the dog's claws regularly. But this should be done in such a way as not to injure the dog.

Rules for a proper haircut

How to perform the procedure at home? In fact, it is simple if you follow the rules below.

First. Preparing the dog for the procedure. Don't play with it, on the contrary, calm it down.

We stroke, say sweet words, and treat with something tasty.

Are you afraid that your dog might bite? Only an ill-mannered four-legged creature would do that. If you are afraid, put a muzzle on it.

We start cutting only when the pet has completely calmed down.

Second. Arm yourself with a claw cutter.

This tool is a special pair of scissors that, unlike human scissors, do not squeeze but carefully cut the claw.

You can buy such scissors at any pet store.

Third. Cut off the very tip of the claw.

It is better to repeat the procedure again than to cause pain to your dog.

Fourth. Speed of operation.

You need to act quickly. It is better to trim the claws on the hind legs when the dog is lying down.

Try to manipulate quickly, because if the dog gets tired of all this, it will start to break free.
