Why Do Cats Love Playing With Lasers So Much? The Reason Is on the Surface

The movements of the dot emitted by a laser pointer turn some cats into real hunters.

The reason for this behavior is, in fact, obvious.

The whole point is that the light spot from the laser beam reminds the cats of the flickering movements typical of their potential prey – small rodents.

You might be wondering what the similarity is between a red dot and a cat's victim?

It turns out that cats have trouble distinguishing between shades of red.

John Bradshaw, a professor of veterinary science at the University of Bristol, is confident that for them, the laser spot looks more like white and yellow, which is close to the rodents' natural colouring.

Please note: the less opportunity a cat has to satisfy their hunting instinct in the usual way, the more susceptible they become to such "foreign" stimuli.

And another remarkable fact: large representatives of the cat family practically do not react to the laser spot.

It probably doesn't look like their victims enough.
