What Dog Owners Should Do to Keep Their Pets' Teeth Healthy: Cleaning Isn't Enough

Washing and brushing teeth are hygiene procedures that should be present not only in a person’s routine, but also in that of their pet.

Since dogs are unable to use a toothbrush on their own, this responsibility falls on the shoulders of their owner.

It is worth cleaning your dog's teeth 1-2 times a week. This can be done with a toothbrush with a special paste applied to it or in another way.

If you want to be the owner of a healthy and active pet, cleaning alone will not be enough.

You should also ensure that your pet's diet is complete and balanced.

Particular attention should be paid to the presence of sufficient amounts of minerals that are needed to keep teeth healthy.

When considering your dog's diet, remember that eating soft foods leaves plaque on the teeth.

But dry granules cannot be called a panacea either. During chewing, saliva moistens them, they soften and can stick to the teeth. The result is often gum inflammation.

Your task is to offer your dog hard vegetables and fruits as snacks. A good option is specially created treats and dog biscuits. All these foods help remove food debris from the teeth.

But that's not all: to prevent the disease from attacking you unawares, conduct regular examinations of your dog's mouth, during which you should check the condition of its teeth and gums.

If an examination reveals that tartar has formed on the dog's fangs, and thorough cleaning and the use of special treats and toys do not bring results, seek help from a veterinarian.

A specialist may recommend you (or rather, your pet) to have ultrasonic teeth cleaning. You should not refuse, because this procedure is safe, painless and effectively removes tartar.
