Many cats love to snuggle up on their owner's chest.
They are driven to do this by not one, but several reasons at once, starting with love and ending with the desire for warmth.
Should I allow my cat to roost in this spot?
If you don't mind this kind of close contact, you can safely allow your pet to rest curled up on your chest.
But sometimes such a cat habit can cause a lot of inconvenience. In particular, we are talking about the following three cases.
Sleep disturbance
If your cat lies down to rest on your chest at night, it may prevent you from getting a good night's rest and sleep.
Allergy
Such close proximity can cause irritation in allergy sufferers due to contact with the animal's fur and dander.
Physical discomfort
If we are not talking about a kitten, but about an adult well-fed cat, you may begin to experience difficulty breathing when your pet lies on your chest.
How to wean a cat from such a habit
First of all, make sure that your pet has an alternative in the form of a cozy and warm bed. Take a closer look at models equipped with heating, and to make the new accessory appealing to your purr, put your old T-shirt inside, from which your smell emanates.
When your cat tries to take a place on your chest, gently move it to its bed. Do this regularly – this is the only way to form a habit.
When your cat stays in his bed, praise him, pet him, and give him a treat to create positive associations.
And remember, the main thing is to be patient, because it can take a long time to form a new habit.
