Should You Leave the Lights on When Your Dog or Cat Is Home Alone: What the Experts Say

Some people leave the lights on when they leave the house because they have a pet in the house.

They believe that light will provide comfort and coziness to a cat or dog. But is it true?

Some people justify their actions by assuming that animals may be afraid of the dark, and in winter it gets light late and dark early.

American veterinarians gave a clear answer to the question about the lights being on.

According to them, pets do not need bright lighting when they are alone.

This means that you don't have to leave the lights on and pay out large bills for excess electricity consumption.

At the same time, veterinarians advise leaving the curtains or blinds slightly open when leaving a house where a dog or cat remains.

They explain this by the fact that in this case your pet will be able to navigate by natural light.

Although a dog or cat does not need additional lighting, it is not a good idea to leave these fauna representatives in complete darkness.

Experts say the animals are adapted to dim lighting.

For example, dogs, like people, are diurnal, meaning they usually sleep at night.

Therefore, they are guided by the change in light around them. If it is dark outside, the dog understands that it is time to rest.

By the way, constant light can even harm a dog, negatively affecting its behavior.

But cats are most active in the mornings and evenings, while they prefer to sleep during the day.

For these furry little whiskers, darkness is no problem.
