With the onset of harsh winter, many, if not all dog owners, are thinking about purchasing special shoes for their pet's paws.
Is this really necessary?
Do you need shoes for walking in the snow?
Most dogs are adapted to walking on snow. Their paws are “equipped” with natural protection – thick pads and hair between the toes.
This means that even when it is cold outside, they can take walks without shoes.
The exception is city dogs.
Their paws can be damaged by salt or chemicals that are often sprinkled on roads. As a result, the pads become irritated, the skin cracks, and sometimes allergies appear.
Therefore, for dogs living in the city, shoes are not a luxury, but protection from discomfort and injury.
Is it worth buying shoes for the summer?
At first glance, it may seem that dog paws do not need such protection in the summer, but this is not so.
The sun heats up the asphalt and sand very much, which means the dog risks getting paw burns.
This is especially true for animals living in hot cities. In such conditions, good footwear helps keep their paws healthy even in extreme heat.
