Many people know that cats are very smart animals.
But the fact that they can remember the names of their owners became known not so long ago.
This was discovered by Japanese scientists, who proved that the furry whiskers can associate people's names with their faces.
They are also excellent at identifying other pets by their given names.
Moreover, according to the results of the study, cats are able to perform such “tricks” without special training.
Scientists conducted an experiment with 48 cats, divided into two groups.
The “domestic animals” group included 19 cats living in families with at least two other animals.
The “cats from the cat cafe” group included 29 meowing cats – they lived in a special cafe with a large number of “fellow countrymen”.
In the first stage of the experiment, cats were shown photographs of their human and other animal companions.
At the same time, they pronounced names - both correct and incorrect ones.
Domestic cats looked at the photos longer when the wrong names were given, demonstrating the "false expectations effect."
We separately tested cats in photos with their owners, also pronouncing their names.
In this case, a lower potential to associate names with people was recorded.
However, cats have shown that they can recognize the names of their owners.
