If you don't want to put up with puddles and piles in the wrong places, make sure the litter box is in a suitable location.
Here are the signs of an ideal litter box location.
Quite calm
The pet's tray should be placed where there is no noise from household appliances, in particular, a washing machine - the sounds made by the equipment can frighten the animal.
Moderately dark
Don't put the litter box in pitch darkness: cats can see well in semi-darkness, but not in total darkness. If the toilet area is 100% isolated from light, it may frighten the cat and it will stop visiting it.
Easily accessible
Your pet should be able to easily get to his litter box - if he spends most of his time on the first floor, where his toys, bowls and bed are, you shouldn't move the toilet to the basement.
If your house has two floors, purchase two trays – one for each floor.
Not too restrictive of a view
This recommendation is more for owners of several animals. The cat should be able to see its surroundings while it is doing its business, otherwise it may start to feel stressed: what if the process is interrupted by another cat sneaking up?
This can happen if the toilet is located in a hard to reach place, such as in a narrow space between a wall and the toilet or in a closed litter box.
