Domestic cats cannot do without greens, which they eat to cleanse their stomachs of accumulated hair.
Therefore, they may start chewing on the leaves of houseplants. At the same time, the animals have no idea which of them are dangerous to health.
Experts from the portal " Explain.rf " told us which indoor plants can be harmful to an animal's health.
Ficus
It doesn't matter what kind of plant it is. All ficuses contain juice that is dangerous for cats and can cause severe pain, swelling, vomiting and digestive disorders.
Aloe vera and hedera
Both plants contain saponin, which, when ingested by a cat, irritates the oral cavity and causes digestive upset.
Complications such as dehydration and convulsions cannot be ruled out.
Dieffenbachia, Zamioculcas and Spathiphyllum
The sodium oxalate they contain is considered toxic to cats.
The cat does not have to eat it at all, but it is enough to just bite the leaf or stem. This is enough to cause burns of the mucous membranes, irritation and swelling of the oral cavity.
The substance causes salivation, coughing, difficulty swallowing, refusal to eat and drink, vomiting and difficulty breathing.
If a cat, despite the precautions taken, still tries to try the listed plants, it is probably a case of vitamin deficiency, experts point out.
