Some people (often not even cat owners) are sure that one of the signs of an animal’s imminent death is its leaving the house.
In fact, cats do not always try to leave their home before they die – usually those that are used to going outside do so.
The second common misconception is that a cat runs away from home because it does not want its owner to suffer from its loss.
The truth is that cats don't think the way humans do, so they're unlikely to think about anyone other than themselves.
A more plausible version is that the animal, feeling unwell, wants to lie down and come to its senses.
At least, that's what wild cats do.
If they are wounded or feel unwell, they hide in the bushes to avoid being seen by the enemy.
It is quite possible that an animal meets death in such a shelter, but not because the beast predicted its death in advance.
Previously, we talked about why a cat's whiskers may fall out .
