What to do if your cat is afraid of loud sounds: one method is to get a second pet

Nature has endowed representatives of the feline family with very sharp and subtle hearing.

Cats perceive even the faintest sounds more clearly than people, not to mention the intense sounds of household appliances, slamming doors or loud music.

Although it is difficult to influence a cat's sensitivity to sounds, it is possible to train a cat to react to them more calmly.

The first thing that is required from a caring owner is to provide the pet with a shelter where it will feel calm and safe. It is best if the animal chooses a secluded corner for itself. If the cat cannot decide on a place in the house, you can offer it a special bed or just a large cardboard box with a hole.

Important: the shelter should be located in a quiet and comfortable place with subdued lighting.

You should accustom your cat to the sounds of a TV, a human voice, and the noise of a vacuum cleaner from an early age. Kittens that grew up in a noisy house usually react more calmly to household sounds, since they associate them with their home.

If you took your pet from a shelter or if it grew up on the street and came to your home as an adult, you need to accustom it to noise gradually.

You can start by leaving the TV on in the room and increasing the volume every day. You can also turn on the vacuum cleaner on low power and let the cat come up to it and sniff it.

Don't forget to reward your cat for the desired behavior.

In some cases, the addition of another young cat to the house that is comfortable with noise can change the situation, as cats often copy the behavior of their relatives.
