People keep canaries because of their beautiful singing, but not everyone succeeds in getting a singing pet.
Only boys
First, it's worth understanding why a canary sings. Singing is mainly a ritual of male canaries, or canaries, who sing to attract females.
Lonely canaries are famous for having the most melodious voices, because if they find a mate, they become silent.
The canary also becomes silent when testosterone levels drop, which can happen during molting or aging.
Suitable conditions
Once you bring your pet home, it will take some time for him to get used to his new surroundings. This process can take several weeks.
During this time, try not to overload the bird with unnecessary attention - moving to a new place is already serious stress for it.
Make sure your bird has a spacious cage with perches, suitable food and the right temperature – around 18-22 degrees.
Workout
The best time to start teaching singing is the period between hatching and the first molt, which begins at the age of 2-3 months.
First, you need to isolate the bird from unnecessary sounds as much as possible. Canaries cannot copy sounds as accurately as parrots, but they also try their hand at imitation, so in order to learn to sing clearly, the canary should not listen to bad examples.
But good examples are necessary for him. Young birds often learn to sing from older relatives, so a cage with an "experienced singer" is often hung nearby. As an option, record the singing of a canary or download ready-made recordings from the Internet. Play them for your bird, and soon it will begin to imitate them.
