Cats and dogs – eternal enemies? Here’s why these animals can’t be friends

You've probably heard the phrase "living like cats and dogs," which is used to describe an irreconcilable feud between two people.

How about learning about the reasons why dogs and cats fight?

Genetic predisposition of the dog

Dogs are natural hunters, and although domestic felines are also predators, dogs are generally larger and more aggressive. Therefore, they automatically perceive cats as prey. This behavior is especially characteristic of hunting breeds.

Special enzymes of cats

Cats secrete a special enzyme that causes aggression and irritation in dogs. The good news is that not all dogs are susceptible to this enzyme.

Past failures

A curious dog may have had negative experiences with cats as a puppy or adult, where they may have been hurt, bitten, or scratched. As a result, the dog may either avoid all cats or, on the contrary, attack them in the future.

Incorrect socialization (lack of it)

Remember that starting from the age of one month, the dog needs to be socialized, giving it the opportunity to communicate not only with people, but also with other animals - relatives, cats and other pets. If this is not done, the adult dog will either be afraid of other animals or react aggressively to them.

Previously we talked about transporting cats on airplanes.
