Achatina, or land snails, which reach truly incredible sizes, have recently become increasingly popular.
Let's find out more about the lives of these undoubtedly fascinating creatures.
First, let's talk about what and how to feed a domestic snail. The diet of these creatures consists mainly of plant food, but they need animal protein, albeit in small quantities, as well as mineral supplements.
A number of products are prohibited. These include all salted and smoked foods, hot and icy foods, and alcohol.
Like all living things, snails need water. Note: the water bowl should not be deep so that the Achatina do not drown in it.
Fun fact: if you urgently need to leave, and none of your friends agreed to look after such unusual pets, you can leave the snails without food and water for 2-3 weeks - a state of hibernation will help them survive this time.
Now about the house. Achatina need an aquarium or terrarium made of glass (plastic will do). The volume is important: for one snail it should be at least 10 liters, and a couple of mollusks will need a 30-liter container.
As a substrate, it is allowed to use flower compost, which does not contain fertilizers, purified peat, coarse sand or coconut fiber.
And finally, let's deal with such an important point as offspring. If you do not want to raise the younger generation of snails, provide them with soil with a layer of no more than 2-3 cm. Achatina consider such conditions unsuitable for reproduction.
The population can also be regulated using temperature: for the development of embryos, the thermometer should show 24 degrees, while adults can live at 20 degrees.
