Many varieties of lilies, including Easter, tiger and Asiatic lilies, contain toxins that, when ingested, can cause serious health problems in cats and even be fatal, Dr. Peter quotes veterinarian Katrina Warren as saying.
Insidious Lilies
Not only a lily growing in a pot or in a flowerbed, but even a plant in a bouquet poses a danger to a pet.
The flower contains toxins in all its parts. The leaves, stems, flowers, pollen and even the water in which the bouquet stands are poisonous.
Symptoms of poisoning
The first signs of poisoning may appear within a few hours.
This includes salivation, vomiting, decreased appetite, and ultimately poisoning can lead to kidney failure.
You can save your pet only by contacting a veterinarian in a timely manner.
But lilies do not pose a serious danger to dogs and do not affect the pets’ kidneys.
