Probably, everyone who has ever heard of such a breed as the Samoyed has had an association with food.
However, there are several versions of the origin of this name, and none of them are related to food.
So, according to the first option, the Samoyeds should be grateful to the northern Samoyedic peoples “Samoyad” (“Samoediny”).
Among the qualities of the representatives of these peoples are pride and independence. They never stooped to accepting "handouts" and did everything possible to survive on their own, which is why they were nicknamed that.
The second option invites us to go even further and get acquainted with the way these people move.
For this purpose, a sled team with dogs was usually used.
Now let's remember how blindingly white the Samoyeds' fur is. Their "fur coats" blended in with the snow, making the dogs virtually invisible and making it seem to everyone watching from the side that the sleds were moving on their own.
Two words: “sami” and “sani” came together to form one, and a name for the breed appeared.
