Discharge from the eyes of a cat is a common occurrence and does not cause surprise, but only if these are transparent tears.

In this case, you don't need a veterinarian's help, even if it's a kitten and not an adult. But if the tears are flowing like a river and have a gray or reddish tint, it's time to seek help.

Experts have named the main reasons for the appearance of discharge from the eyes of a pet, when it is worth seeking help from a veterinarian.

1. This may be a consequence of bruises and wounds. In this case, swelling may appear, and the body temperature in the area of inflammation may also increase.

2. Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane. The disease occurs in humans and animals. The eyes may turn red along with the discharge. The infection can be brought in by debris, insects, and other unpleasant things.

3. Another eye disease is blepharitis. Itching may occur along with external signs. Antibiotic treatment may be required.

4. Panophthalmitis is rare, but it is a serious disease. The disease affects the entire eye and is accompanied by abundant pus discharge.

Often seen in stray animals. There is no treatment - the eyeball has to be removed.

In such cases, the specialist does not advise self-medication, but to seek help in a timely manner, because eye inflammation can lead to blindness.
