It is unlikely that any cat owner will argue with the fact that his pet feels like the mistress of the house.
For this reason, curious pets will explore all places (literally!), including those where they are definitely not welcome - for example, the surface of kitchen countertops.
Is it worth mentioning why such behavior is unacceptable? Just in case, let us remind you that the table is, first of all, dangerous for the animal due to the proximity of a hot stove and sharp objects, and besides, this habit certainly cannot be called hygienic.
To teach your cat to stay away from countertops, try using a clicker – an object that makes a characteristic sound (click). But first things first.
First, install a tree in the house. A tall tree trunk can replace a perch. It is needed to satisfy the cat's need to climb high and observe what is happening in the house from a safe height.
As soon as you notice the mischievous pet on the table, remove it and move it to the tree.
After this, press the clicker button and give the kitten a well-deserved reward in the form of a treat.
The next time your cat climbs the tree on its own, click the clicker and give the treat as a reward again.
Once the cat begins to associate the tree with positivity, it will stop climbing on the table and will prefer to spend time in the tree (perch).
