What Worries a Dog During a Full Moon: Everyone Should Know This

25.05.2023 19:09

Probably every respectable dog considers it his duty to lift his muzzle and break the silence with a long howl on a full moon.

This heartbreaking sight is popularly associated with the most unpleasant consequences. But in general, there is absolutely nothing to worry about: dogs have reasons to howl during the full moon.

Experts have revealed what worries pets and makes them howl at the full moon.

1. Hormonal background

The movement of the night light is associated with changes in the hormonal level in the dog's body. It is this internal change that can cause anxiety and nervousness, and not the appearance of the Moon.

2. Other animals

If the dog does not live alone in the house, then the activity of other pets, which is also observed during the full moon, can puzzle it a little. The dog can perceive someone else's anxiety as a threat to its safety.

3. Fear

Instincts or fear of the unknown - this is perhaps the only mystical component of a dog's howling during a full moon.

4. Owner's behavior

It is possible that the pet has simply not been allowed to walk freely for a long time or has not been given attention. Against the general background, anxiety may manifest itself on the night of the full moon.

Otherwise, experts don’t see anything out of the ordinary.

But if the howling is prolonged or is not related to the phases of the moon, it is worth taking the dog to the vet, because this may already be a call for help.
