Achatina – those same domestic snails – are gaining more and more popularity, becoming a favorite pet for children and adults.
If you are just trying to decide whether you can get along with an exotic pet, we suggest that you first familiarize yourself with their diet to understand whether you can meet the basic needs of mollusks.
1. Greens. Snails need greens such as lettuce, spinach, dandelion, clover and other herbs. They should get them fresh.
2. Fruits and vegetables. Snails also love fresh fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, apples, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins and others. They can also be given fresh, after being chopped up.
3. Mushrooms. Some snails also eat mushrooms, such as button mushrooms and oyster mushrooms. These can be chopped up and given to the snails as a supplement to their main food.
4. Eggs: Eggs are a source of protein and other nutrients for snails. This product should be crushed and added to the main feed.
5. Bread. Snails can be fed bread, but only in small quantities and only fresh.
6. Calcium. Snails need calcium to grow and strengthen their bones. To do this, you can add special calcium supplements to their food.
7. Water. Snails should have constant access to water for drinking. They can drink water from a saucer or bowl, but they can also get water from a dripper installed in the terrarium.
It is important to remember that each type of snail has its own individual nutritional needs, so before you start feeding your snail, you need to study its preferences and characteristics.
