Before a kitten appears in the house, you will have to acquire many things to ensure its comfort and safety.
However, some owners make a mistake by immediately buying a huge number of things that the kitten does not need at first. And sometimes they will not need them at all.
What you need to buy before your pet arrives in your home
1. A place to sleep.
The first thing you need to buy or make yourself is a place where the kitten will sleep.
Small animals sleep most of the day, so you can't do without a small sofa or an old soft sweater adapted to replace it.
2. Two bowls.
The kitten needs a place to eat and drink. You can buy special bowls for kittens or use two regular bowls, adapting them for food and water.
It is better to take ceramic ones, as animals do not like metal. Sometimes cats refuse to eat from a metal bowl or eat less than the norm, which is doubly unacceptable for a kitten, as it grows.
3. Feed.
Kittens have special nutritional needs, so you need to buy kitten food (not adult cat food, this is important). Choose food that is appropriate for your kitten's age and make sure it contains all the necessary nutrients.
4. Tray.
A litter box is a must to immediately train your pet to go to the toilet in a specially designated place. If you use a diaper, it will be difficult to retrain the animal later.
5. Litter tray filler.
You will also need to buy litter for the tray. There is a wide choice here, but remember that cheap litter can cause allergies.
This is the bare minimum that will be needed right away. Everything else can be purchased as the animal grows and its needs increase. For example, you shouldn't buy all the toys in the pet store at once. One or two will be enough. If you overwhelm the baby with a large number of toys, they will quickly become boring. It is better to regularly replace the old toy with a new one.
What you definitely need to buy, but later
Once the baby has arrived in the house, you can gradually buy things that you will need in the future.
These things include:
• Scratching post.
• Carrying.
• Tools for combing wool.
• Scissors for cutting claws.
• A collar with an address tag (this is very important, since cats sometimes run away even from the apartment).
• Collar against ticks and fleas (if the cat will go outside).
There are also things that you don't necessarily have to buy, but if you want to pamper your pet, you can buy them. These are various toys, houses, a system of obstacles (pedestals, poles, tunnels), a hammock for attaching to a window. However, you shouldn't get carried away with purchases.
Cats feel great without all these things. But without the attention of the owner, they feel bad. You can’t buy off cats with things, just like you can’t buy off people. The attention of the owner, the time spent with him, is much more important to them. The cat will be much happier if you play with him with a piece of paper tied to a string than if you leave him alone for a day with a dozen expensive toys.
