There is no correct answer to the question of how much a cat should weigh.

This is due to the fact that cats, even within the same breed, differ greatly, let alone pets of different breeds.

With “yard” cats there is no certainty at all – in one litter of mongrel cats there can be both large and small kittens.

However, there are a few universal signs that will help you understand if your pet is overweight.

Obesity in a cat can be diagnosed by feeling it thoroughly.

So, you should feel the ribs and spine. If you can't do this, you can confidently talk about excess weight.

If the ribs and spine are not covered with a layer of muscle and literally stick out, your pet is emaciated.

Please note: cats accumulate fat on their belly, in the so-called primordial sac, which is why this area is soft to the touch. However, the belly itself should be tucked in and should not hang down to the floor.
