Why You Shouldn't Give Dogs Bones: Here's a Safe Alternative

Just a few years ago, it was believed that there was nothing better for dogs to do than to spend time gnawing on a bone.

However, medicine, including veterinary medicine, does not stand still, and veterinarians around the world are urging dog owners to stop using bones in their pets’ diets.

It turns out that bones do not make dogs' teeth sharper - on the contrary, they scratch the enamel and damage the fangs.

It is equally rare for bone fragments to get stuck in the teeth, and if they are not removed, the surrounding tissues become infected.

In addition, there is always a risk of injury to the pharynx and esophagus when biting and swallowing a bone.

Since there are many vessels in the pharynx, damage to even one of them will lead to severe bleeding. Penetrating wounds of the esophagus cause severe inflammation and sepsis.

It is also possible that bones can get stuck anywhere. In addition, they sometimes accumulate in the stomach, and even gastric juice cannot break them down.

Therefore, instead of permanently depriving your dog of the desired treat, replace it with raw beef bone without splinters on the chopped edge or offer safe soft bones - young cartilage or articular surfaces of the bones of the limbs.
