Fear, anxiety, and an overwhelming longing for home, family, and friends are common problems among out-of-town students.
Here are five helpful tips to help you cope with this feeling and adapt to your new environment.
Create a sense of belonging in a new place
Arrange your home in such a way that everything here reminds you of home. Family photos will help you with this, as well as your favorite things and decor elements. Remember: the more comfortable and familiar the new space is, the less you will feel homesick.
Stay in touch with your loved ones
Even if communication with family members and friends takes place via telephone or social media, you will receive emotional support and maintain a connection with home.
Make new friends
Don't be a grump: meet new people and communicate. New friends will help you adapt to a new environment faster.
Try to keep busy all the time
Being busy is a great way to get rid of negative thoughts. Let all your time be filled with, for example, studying and new hobbies. If you have come not just from another city, but from abroad, devote your free minutes to learning a new language.
Focus on new opportunities
Try to recognize the positive things that student life has to offer, even if it is away from home. You can gain independence, develop new skills, and make friends. Focus on these opportunities and the impact (positive, of course) they will have on your future.
