Did you know that the Japanese subway freezes ice at night?
It is used for air conditioning. We tell you how it works.
Why Japanese subways freeze ice at night
The fact is that electricity is quite expensive in Japan. Due to its small territory and large population, the country's resources are very limited.
That's why the Japanese save them, sometimes in very unusual ways.
Most Tokyo subway stations are located at shallow depths and require air cooling in the summer.
Ice is used for this. Stations have special rooms with reservoirs in which ice is frozen at night.
The next day it is used for air conditioning. The ice is placed in front of the fans and sprayed around the room.
