The Russian language is quite complex. There are many words in it that even smart and experienced people make mistakes in spelling.
For example, university teachers.
Yes, yes, that's right! Not "universities", but "high schools".
Some university employees misspell the word for the institution where they work.
Unfortunately, the erroneous version “VUZ” is often chosen even by people who see this word almost every day in documents, brochures, books and notebooks.
How to spell the word "university" correctly
Writing this word in capital letters is a mistake, reports the Zen channel “Protect Speech”.
The word "university" should be written in lowercase (small) letters.
The desire to write differently is quite understandable: usually abbreviations are written in capital letters (for example, MSU, NLO, EVM).
But why "vuz" and not "VUZ"? We must recall the code of rules of the Russian language adopted almost 70 years ago. It contained an instruction: abbreviations read by sounds must be written in small letters.
However, the rule was often ignored. And in 2006, a norm was established according to which most such abbreviations should still be written in capital letters.
But exceptions were made: a university, a technical college, a pillbox and a bunker.
An interesting situation has arisen with the words ZAGS and NEP: they can also be written in small letters. Or in large letters.
