Workaholism can be called a person's desire to work excessively, thereby harming other areas of his life.
In this case, work activity becomes the main means of self-realization.
Why is this bad?
A workaholic escapes from reality, focusing exclusively on work, which ultimately leads to overwork, anxiety disorders, various types of addictions (both chemical and non-chemical), psychosomatic illnesses, depression, etc.
Signs of workaholism
To find out whether you are a workaholic or not, first count how much time you spend working per week. If this figure exceeds 60 hours, this is definitely a reason to think.
In addition, you should pay attention to other signs:
- You don’t delegate tasks to others; you prefer to control everything yourself.
- Spend more time on work than on hobbies, family and socializing with friends.
- You constantly think about work, even on weekends, vacations and before going to bed.
- Intolerant of colleagues' mistakes, even if they are minor.
- You may feel guilty if you don't work. The reason doesn't matter - this feeling doesn't leave you when you are on vacation or sick leave.
- Your family and friends often hear from you that you don’t have time.
- If difficulties or problems arise at work, you may react emotionally and become upset.
