When you hear a request from your boss, your first impulse is to immediately say “yes.”
Indeed, it is difficult to refuse for several reasons at once.
Thus, refusal is not easy due to the fear of losing the favor of others or even letting them down and disappointing them, and sometimes the word “no” is strongly associated with guilt and fear.
Even though we are often overwhelmed with deadlines, we still cannot refuse a “small request”, especially from our boss.
If you count how many of these “small services” we provide per week, it becomes clear why we are left without strength, while others are actively using our resources.
So what do you do if your boss asks you for a favor?
Try saying, "I'm working on several projects right now. Which ones do you think are the most important?"
This way, you show that you already have a lot of tasks and your boss needs to decide which ones are the highest priority. In addition, this way, you remind your boss that each task requires energy and adding new ones may mean that you will have to spend less time on old ones. This means that your boss will have to redistribute your workload himself.
