Time magazine has named American singer Taylor Swift as Person of the Year.

The singer was named Time's Person of the Year for the first time, but appearing on the cover of the publication was not her debut: in 2017, she was featured in a collective image of fighters against violence against women.

A total of nine candidates competed for the title of Time Person of the Year.

Among them are Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, British King Charles III, the Barbie doll from the film of the same name, CHatGPT developer Sam Altman, Hollywood actors and screenwriters.

The first person of the year according to Time was the American pilot Charles Lindbergh, who was the first person in history to fly across the Atlantic Ocean alone.

More than 70 times, Time has chosen public and political figures as Person of the Year, including Mahatma Gandhi, Winston Churchill, Elizabeth II, Charles de Gaulle, Martin Luther King, Henry Kissinger, Ayatollah Khomeini and Angela Merkel.

The title has been awarded to every US president since Franklin Roosevelt, except Gerald Ford. Roosevelt was the only one to receive the title three times.

Among the holders of the title are five leaders of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation: Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev, Yuri Andropov, Mikhail Gorbachev and Putin.
