Two local residents who became victims of still actively operating scammers contacted the Minsk police.
Citizens suffered because they believed assurances on social networks about favorable prices (below market prices) for renting an apartment.
As reported on its official telegram channel by the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee, the same fraudulent scheme was used against both victims.
The young people contacted potential landlords via social media, discussed rental terms, and agreed to meet.
But before moving into the apartment, the tenants were convinced to make an advance payment, supposedly for a reservation.
One of the gullible Minsk residents transferred over 500 rubles to the fraudster’s account, after which he stopped communicating and, accordingly, the rental deal did not take place.
The Main Directorate of Internal Affairs noted that the scammers, in order to appear as honest as possible, sent young people photographs of “their” passports.
But, as law enforcement officers found out, the criminals used passport photos of people who did not even suspect it.
As a result, the criminals pocketed a total of over 1,000 rubles. Criminal cases have been opened on the facts of fraud.
