"A sea captain" swindled 2,000 euros from a Minsk resident.
The press service of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee reported this on Telegram.
How a Minsk resident lost 2,000 euros
Two residents of the capital who became victims of blackmail contacted the Frunzensky District Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk.
One of the victims, a 45-year-old woman, met a foreigner on a social network in 2023 who introduced himself as a long-distance captain.
A new acquaintance said he was looking for a serious relationship. A virtual romance began with an exchange of intimate photos.
In the end, the “captain” promised to come visit and asked to transfer 2,000 euros for a ticket (his card was allegedly temporarily blocked).
The Minsk resident transferred the money, but the "sailor" did not arrive. The correspondence ceased.
This year, the swindler contacted her again and began blackmailing the woman with intimate photos, demanding that she transfer 1,000 euros. The Minsk resident did not give in to the blackmailer and contacted the police.
The second victim, a 20-year-old guy, was also looking for a pen pal on a social network. During their conversation, the young people exchanged intimate photos.
After some time, the girl demanded money for non-dissemination of the photos. The guy refused to transfer the money and contacted the police. Criminal cases were opened on these facts.
The Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee calls on citizens to be extremely careful when communicating on social networks. Do not agree to the demands of blackmailers, contact the police.
