Telephone scammers posing as law enforcement officers convinced a Minsk resident to take out three loans totaling 40,000 rubles.
The press service of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee reported this on Telegram.
How the scammers operated
A resident of the district, who became a victim of fraudsters, contacted the Pervomayskoye District Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk.
The complainant received a call on her home phone from a supposed law enforcement officer.
The law enforcement officer told the woman that the fraudsters had taken out loans using her personal data and that she needed to take out real loans for the same amount to block the transactions.
The Minsk resident believed them, took out three loans and transferred more than 40,000 rubles to the scammers.
After this, the "law enforcement officers" stopped communicating. A criminal case of fraud was opened on this fact.
The Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee reminds: when receiving such calls, you must hang up and report the incident to the police.
