Cyber fraudsters, under the pretext of investing in shares of the Belmash plant, lured more than 10,000 rubles from a Minsk resident.
The press service of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee reported this on Telegram.
How the scammers operated
A 57-year-old resident of the capital, who became a victim of cyber fraudsters and lost more than 10,000 rubles, contacted the Leninsky District Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk.
The applicant saw an advertisement on YouTube offering to invest in shares of the Belmash plant and followed the link.
A trader contacted a Minsk resident and convinced her to start trading. The woman checked the company in the browser search bar, saw negative reviews, but did not believe them.
By investing $100, she was able to withdraw a profit of $10 to her card.
This inspired confidence in the Minsk resident, and she replenished her balance by approximately $2,000.
Two weeks later, the woman decided to cash out the profit, but was unable to. First, the Minsk resident was required to pay for insurance, then to make several more large payments.
After transferring the money, the woman realized that she had become a victim of fraud. A criminal case was opened.
