A pensioner from Minsk threw money from the balcony – about 10,000 dollars.
As it turned out, the woman did so on the orders of the scammers. The courier who was supposed to pick up the money got into trouble.
The fact is that this citizen was detained by eyewitnesses of the incident. And then handed over to the police.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus told about the unusual story on its Telegram channel.
It is reported that employees of the repair crew working on Tolbukhin Street contacted law enforcement officers via the 102 line.
According to them, in the courtyard of the house a suspicious guy asked a pensioner to throw a bag from the balcony.
Police officers immediately went to the specified address.
They established that the 91-year-old Minsk resident became a victim of the “Hello, Mom!” fraudulent scheme.
The grandmother believed the villains: she thought that she was giving money (almost 10,000 dollars) for saving her niece who had been in an accident.
Since the intermediary was unable to get into the entrance, the woman was asked to throw the package out of the window.
As for the 24-year-old courier, he turned out to be a resident of the Brest region, who found a “part-time job” in one of the messengers.
This was his first and, apparently, last assignment for a long time.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of fraud. The money will be returned to the owner.
Law enforcement officers thanked concerned citizens for their assistance in detaining the criminal.
