The attackers forced the Minsk resident to undress in front of the camera.
Having received the corresponding video recording, the scammers began to threaten the girl and demand money from her.
After the incident, the citizen contacted law enforcement agencies.
Information about the incident was published on the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
How Fraudsters Deceived a Minsk Resident
First, the citizen was called using a messenger.
The unknown person introduced himself as a “mobile operator” and said that the criminals had allegedly stolen the girl’s passport details and also set up a call forwarding to her number.
To “turn off the redirection,” the Minsk resident followed the link that the attackers sent her.
The result of this action was the appearance of a remote access application on the citizen's mobile phone. In other words, the criminals gained control over this gadget.
Then the man, who introduced himself as a “mobile operator,” told the girl that he wanted to make sure that she was not bugged.
Then the unknown person demanded that the Minsk resident undress completely in front of the camera.
The citizen took this step. And then the scammers began to threaten the girl: they said that they would start distributing the video. In addition, the criminals began to demand money from the Minsk resident.
Law enforcement officials have addressed the Belarusians with the following reminder: if you receive a call via a messenger and if the person you are talking to says that you need to follow a link to achieve a certain result, you should immediately end the conversation and contact your provider and law enforcement officials.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also noted: it is forbidden to transfer personal data and download programs from suspicious links.
