A resident of Minsk received $5,000 as a gift from her grandmother in Poland, and almost all of the bills turned out to be counterfeit.
This was reported by the press service of the State Forensic Expertise Committee of Belarus.
What happened
A 41-year-old resident of Minsk came to the bank to exchange 400 dollars in hundred-dollar bills.
The cashier doubted the authenticity of the banknotes and reported this to the police.
The Minsk resident told the police that the dollars were given to him by his wife’s grandmother, who lives in Poland.
They had no idea that the banknotes could be counterfeit, the State Forensic Examination Committee said.
To establish the authenticity of the remaining banknotes, a resident of the capital voluntarily handed over the remaining 46.
A forensic technical examination was carried out. 39 out of 50 banknotes were found to be counterfeit.
The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on this fact.
