A pensioner from Minsk almost sold her apartment at the behest of telephone scammers.
A vigilant realtor saved the woman from a fatal mistake.
This was reported by the Telegram channel of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee.
How the scammers operated
First, the capital's pensioner received a call on her home phone, allegedly from Energosbyt.
The woman was told that they would change the meters and needed her personal information.
The pensioner dictated her address, telephone number, passport series and number.
At the same time, the woman received a call on a messenger from a supposed law enforcement officer.
The caller told the Minsk resident that she was talking on her home phone with scammers and demanded that she end the conversation.
Later, the “law enforcement officer” convinced the pensioner that the scammers had put her apartment up for sale and that she needed to find a realtor herself, sell the apartment and transfer the proceeds to a “safe” account.
The realtor found by the Minsk resident suggested that she was being deceived by scammers and recommended that she tell her loved ones about the situation.
After talking with her relatives, the pensioner realized that she had almost become a victim of fraudsters and contacted the police.
A criminal case has been opened on this fact.
